IRS drops 'acting' from Powell's CFO title
Eileen Powell has been formally appointed the tax agency's chief financial officer.
The Internal Revenue Service announced the appointment of Eileen Powell as the agency's chief financial officer Tuesday.
Powell has been acting CFO since June 30. In May, IRS Commissioner Mark Everson moved then-CFO Todd Grams to the chief information officer position.
As CFO, Powell is responsible for financial systems that run the agency's $10 billion annual budget and accounting systems that handle more than $2 trillion in taxpayer receipts. She will be a significant advisor on many management matters within the agency, including financial management, financial systems, strategic planning and performance measurement.
Powell joined the IRS in July 2001 as director of administrative accounting. Prior to that, she was project director on the Department of Veterans Affairs' nationwide core accounting and logistics system and as associate deputy assistant secretary for financial operations.
