The Industry Advisory Council's eGov Shared Interest Group and the Federal Chief Information Officer Council, in partnership with E-Gov, announced the Excellence.gov awards Feb. 5 at E-Gov's Web-Enabled Government Conference.

Judges from both government and industry considered maturity of the governance model, innovation, measurable results and other factors in the evaluation of more than 90 entries, according to an IAC spokesperson.

The Top 5 winners are:

*Small Business Administration for BusinessLaw.gov. The site makes it easier for new businesses to get state and federal employer identification numbers. The project delivered a $500,000 return on investment in just nine months.

*Securities and Exchange Commission for its Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval (EDGAR) system. The system enables immediate online access to corporate financial documents.

*Department of Health and Human Services for the National Practitioner Data Bank and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank. Both data banks contain adverse information on doctors, dentists and other health care practitioners. They allow state regulators and others to quickly get information about the providers practicing in their states.

*Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency for its Disaster Management site. The site provides cross-information on disaster services to improve disaster preparedness, mitigation and response.

*Department of Defense, Defense Information Systems Agency for the Federal Technical Data Solution (FedTeDS). The system safeguards acquisition related information for use by all federal agencies.
