Air Force brings Qwest back to Peterson

The five-year, $1.3 million contract is a win-back for Qwest, which had served the base earlier before ICG Communications took over.

The Air Force has awarded Qwest Communications International Inc. a five-year contract to provide local voice and data services to Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The contract is a win-back for Qwest, which had served the base before ICG Communications Inc., a local carrier based in Englewood, Colo., took over.

Qwest officials attributed the success to the company's understanding of the base's unique needs. Peterson is home to the Air Force's worldwide missile warning and space control operations.

The $1.3 million contract is for Peterson's basewide communications.
