The Army Research Laboratory bought a 2,132-Intel processor Evolocity II from Linux Networx.
The Defense Department chose hardware from Linux Networx Inc. in its latest procurement to improve military laboratories' high-performance computing, called Technology Insertion 2004.
The Army Research Laboratory, located in Adelphi. Md., purchased the 2,132-Intel Corp. processor Evolocity II cluster from Linux Networx, located in Bluffdale, Utah. When the group of computers is installed this summer, it will mark the largest Linux environment in the department's laboratory community.
"This system will be a key component of the Army Research Laboratory's major shared resource center and the entire DOD modernization program," said Thomas Kendall, the lab's lead systems engineer, in the company's Feb. 19 statement.
The department's High Performance Computing Modernization Program provides supercomputing, high-speed networking and computer science expertise so military laboratories can conduct research, development and testing.
Linux Networx later this year will deliver five more clusters to the program, the company statement said.
