The Pentagon will tailor its electronic procurement system for the Homeland Security Department.
Pentagon officials will tailor their electronic procurement system for the Homeland Security Department, the first nondefense agency to use the system on an enterprisewide basis.
Officials from the Defense Department's Defense Logistics Agency and DHS' management division announced today the partnership allowing DHS employees one-stop shopping in the Electronic Mall, or EMALL.
They will be able to access 383 commercial catalogs with more than 12 million items and a total of 5.5 million National Stock Numbers from Defense Supply Centers and the General Services Administration.
"The EMALL solution is an optimal means of ordering goods and services because the contracts are managed centrally and DHS' ordering is decentralized, providing a single electronic point of entry to search for, order and acquire order status on goods and services for DHS' contracts," said Greg Rothwell, DHS's chief procurement officer, in a press release.
DHS officials said they plan to use EMALL to buy existing DOD contracts and contracts established exclusively for the homeland security agency. DHS officials are evaluating several commodities they plan to strategically source.
