GSA’s Sindelar takes on familiar role for OMB, e-gov

The Office of Management and Budget is getting serious about its line of business consolidation initiatives—called by some the next wave of e-government projects.Starting March 8 John Sindelar, the General Services Administration’s deputy associate administrator in the Office of Governmentwide Policy, will split his time between OMB and his agency to kick-start the projects.OMB is planning a meeting March 18 to launch work on the projects.Sindelar said his role will be similar to a program manager, which is the same role he played in getting the 25 Quicksilver e-government projects off the ground.“I will work with the project leaders to make sure the projects are on track and meeting the deliverables laid out for each them,” Sindelar said. Sindelar said he will work with the project managers to identify possible consolidation projects by Sept. 1, so they can be included in the fiscal 2006 budget request.“We are making recommendations to OMB in time for the budget process in case there are requirements that need funding,” he said. “For Quicksilver, we were out of step with the budget process, and it was difficult to get any new money in that first year.”Sindelar said he expects to work more at OMB than at GSA in the beginning and then will gradually balance his responsibilities to both agencies.
