Army seeks quotes for financial system

The Army in April wants to issue a request for quotations for a vendor to oversee the implementation of commercial enterprise resource planning software for the service's financial management systems.

Defense Department and Army officials next week will meet to review the solicitation for the multiyear, multimillion-dollar procurement. The service wants to hire a company to administer, choose software and manage the installation, said John Argodale, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for financial operations, today during an interview. He spoke at the Program Executive Office-Enterprise Information Systems' Industry Day.

The Army this summer plans to award the lead systems integrator contract. The service wants the winning company by next year to begin a pilot program to demonstrate that the commercial software works and that the Army can adapt its processes to the off-the-shelf products, Argodale said.

The service currently operates the Standard Financial System and the Standard Operations and Maintenance Research and Development System to dispense its general funds account. The two legacy systems use government-written software to monitor the Army's main appropriations ledger, which tracks the balance and money coming and out, he said.
