The award honors relationships between large companies and small firms that they mentor. The intent is to encourage formal mentor/protégé programs that help small companies establish themselves in the federal market.
This year, EDS, IBM Corp. and Northrop Grumman Mission Systems are among the large companies that won for their work with Automation Precision Technology LLC, Communication Technology Inc. and Computer and Hi-tech Management Inc., respectively.
According to DOD, the 2004 winners come from 10 states and represent a variety of industries, including information technology, environmental remediation and construction. Ten of the 11 are first-time winners.
