USAJobs.com: 45 million served

The USAJobs Web site, launched last August, has received 45 million visitors and has more than 800 information technology job openings listed online, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Clarence Crawford, OPM's chief financial officer, said the Web site, one of five e-government initiatives that the agency runs, lists more than 18,000 federal jobs and has 400,000 résumés posted online.

"It continues to gain a national reputation," Crawford told a luncheon at FOSE 2004, the annual IT trade show.

Crawford also said OPM has installed questions on the online listing service to help protect potential employers against resumes containing bogus degrees, a problem highlighted with the disclosure that Laura Callahan, the deputy chief information officer at the Homeland Security Department had received academic credentials from unaccredited online services.

Crawford said OPM is moving ahead with several e-government initiatives, including e-training, which is career development for federal workers. More than 3,000 courses are offered online, and so far, 160,000 federal workers have taken courses.

When five e-government initiatives are fully operational at OPM, Crawford said it would save the federal government nearly $22 billion.

"We're improving our business practices. We're making sure our systems are citizen-centered and market-based," Crawford said.
