LA spends $13M for financial management

American Management Systems (AMS) Inc. on Monday announced a six-year $13 million contract with Los Angeles County to upgrade the financial management system.

The new system, the Web-enabled AMS' Advantage solution, will allow county officials to shut down many existing systems as they streamline the entire financial management process, they said. Advantage is also meant to ensure that employees countywide have the latest, most accurate data for program decisions.

"This solution will provide us timely and more effective access to information, improving how we deliver services to our citizens," J. Tyler McCauley, auditor-controller for the county, said in a statement.

With nearly 10 million residents, Los Angeles is the most populous county in the United States. The financial management system will handle a budget of more than $17 billion. It must also be able to interface with several other systems, including the Countywide Acquisition Management Information System developed by Information Management Specialists Inc.
