What's an enterprise architect?

The Office of Management and Budget's chief architect is at the helm of the federal government's enterprise architecture.

As program manager at the Federal Enterprise Architecture Program Management Office, the chief architect guides work on the framework's five reference models. He or she reports directly to OMB's administrator for e-government and information technology.

The federal enterprise architecture is a framework for cross-agency collaboration, transformation and governmentwide improvement. It gives agencies a new way of describing, analyzing and improving how the government works by imposing standards across the government.

Bob Haycock (right) was named OMB's first chief architect in November 2003 after serving in an acting role since June 2002.
