SSA office to craft Web content

The Social Security Administration plans to have an Office of Electronic Communications.

Social Security Administration officials announced in the Federal Register this week that they intend to create an Office of Electronic Communications.

The office will be responsible for developing and coordinating content for the agency's internal and public Web sites. Officials at the new office will also be responsible for the electronic communications needs of non-English speaking people and those with disabilities, according to the May 20 notice.

The Agriculture Department has a Web services division within its Office of Communications, but the concept of an office organized to handle electronic communications is not yet commonplace in the federal government.
