Building an organization

The FBI's Records Management Division is organized into three sections, each led by experts hired in 2002:

Records automation section — Michael Miller oversees this area, which handles automated records. He served as the director of the Modern Records Program at the National Archives and Records Administration. Miller came to the FBI in 2002 with 25 years of records management experience.

Records policy section — Marie Allen leads the effort to define policies and guidelines for managing physical and electronic records. She served as the director of NARA's Life Cycle Management Division, where she reviewed all records retention schedules for all federal agencies and conducted management training.

Freedom of Information and Privacy acts section — This area, the largest in the division, deals with records as an information source and as transactions. David Hardy took control of the section after serving as the assistant judge advocate general of the Navy for civil law.
