Duffey to head EDS government unit

EDS tapped Jim Duffey, a veteran company executive with extensive international experience, to lead its federal, state and local government sector, company officials announced today.

Duffey replaces federal-sector chief Al Edmonds, who last month announced his retirement. Duffey also takes over EDS' state and local practice, which had been led by former Michigan Gov. John Engler. Engler resigned two weeks ago to become president of the National Association of Manufacturers.

Duffey began his EDS career 21 years ago heading litigation for the company's Government Services Group. In 1987, he was named deputy general counsel for international operations, beginning a 12-year stint in Europe, where he led the company's Iberian and Italian strategic business units.

In 1999, Duffey became general manager for EDS in Australia and New Zealand. He later became vice president of information solutions for Asia Pasific South. In 2002, he was named EDS' chief sales officer, and during a 12-month period, the company signed nearly $25 billion in contracts. In 2003, he was named president of U.S. Client Care for EDS' Operations Solutions line of business.

"Jim's global experience, versatility and depth of government knowledge will be important assets as he drives growth in this critical segment of our business," said Jeff Heller, EDS' president and chief operating officer. Duffey will report to Steve Schuckenbrock, executive vice president of Global Sales & Client Solutions.
