General Dynamics wins $478M Joint Forces contract

Officials at the U.S. Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., announced late yesterday they had awarded a contract potentially worth nearly $500 million to a contractor based in Arlington, Va., to support joint experimentation efforts.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems won the contract, which has a base value of $89.6 million for the first year and a potential value of more than $478 million during a five-year period, if all options are exercised.

The contract calls for General Dynamics to support various Joint Forces Command experimentation and concept development programs at the Joint Experimentation Directorate and the Joint Futures Laboratory.

The contract will support several force transformation initiatives and the role that joint concept development and exploration plays in that transformation. Most of the work will be performed at the Joint Forces Command's Suffolk, Va. facilities.

Joint Forces Command is one of nine unified commands in the Defense Department and oversees the roles of transformation, experimentation, joint training, and interoperability.
