Stone confirmed as TSA boss

Rear Adm. David Stone has been confirmed as the new administrator of the Transportation Security Administration.

The Senate unanimously confirmed Stone on Thursday to replace Admiral James Loy, the former TSA administrator who was promoted last fall to deputy secretary for Homeland Security Department.

Stone was appointed as TSA's acting administrator last December after serving as deputy chief of staff since August 2003. He joined TSA as the first federal security director at Los Angeles International Airport after retiring from active duty in the U.S. Navy in April 2002.

"It is an honor to have been nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate for this challenging post," Stone said. "I am fully committed to working with Secretary Tom Ridge and the rest of [DHS] team to strengthen the nation's bulwarks in the war against terror."
