Army buys NetPro software

Army information technology officials at the service's Medical Command will use products from NetPro Computing Inc. to manage the command's implementation of Microsoft Corp.'s Active Directory.

IT officials at the Army Medical Information Technology Center purchased 65,000 seats of NetPro's ChangeAuditor and DirectoryLockdown. ChangeAuditor tracks, creates reports about and issues alerts related to modifications to Active Directory. DirectoryLockdown monitors the configuration and schema naming contexts of Active Directory for unauthorized changes, according to a Sept. 14 company statement.

Terry Gregurvich, chief of the Core Technologies at Army Medical Command, said the widely distributed and mission-critical nature of the command requires intelligent, proactive infrastructure management solutions. IT officials at Army Medical Command migrated almost 40,000 of 65,000 users to Active Directory.

Army officials issued a directive in February to phase out all Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 operating systems by Dec. 31 because the company will stop supporting NT at the end of this year. The directive also ordered the retirement of the Windows 95/98 and Millennium Edition systems.
