Awards given for enterprise architecture
FCW Media Group's FCW Events announced its annual Excellence in Enterprise Architecture awards.
Officials at FCW Media Group's FCW Events awarded their annual Excellence in Enterprise Architecture Awards to the Federal Railroad Administration, the Marine Corps, the Interior Department and the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support.
The awards, presented jointly with the Federal Enterprise Architecture Certification (FEAC) Institute, recognize best practices in developing and implementing a successful enterprise architecture in two categories: leadership in enterprise architecture and leadership in government transformation.
Within each category, one civilian agency and one defense agency are recognized. In addition, this year's awards, presented during FCW Events' Enterprise Architecture Conference and Exhibition in Washington, D.C., recognize the Government Accountability Office for its efforts to advance enterprise architecture practices across the federal government.
In the leadership category, the Federal Railroad Administration was honored for its Enterprise Architecture Version 2.0, which used private sector-best practices for future scenario planning. The agency's chief information officer established an "IT Management Portal" to provide one-stop-shopping for agency business, technical and portfolio information.
For the defense award in this category, the Marine Corps' First Marine Expeditionary Force was recognized for biometrics architecture implementation in Iraq. The solution, which helps Marines in western Iraq screen suspects and manage detainees, was implemented in less than eight months.
In the leadership in government transformation category, the Interior Department won for an enterprise architecture methodology and repository that enabled development of modernization blueprints for its lines of businesses.
The Defense Department's Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support also won in this category for providing the medical logistics community within the Army, Navy, and Air Force a common framework with which to articulate medical logistics business processes.
In a special award, the GAO was credited for its work in publishing guidance governing enterprise architecture management and content, and its governmentwide and agency specific evaluations of enterprise architecture implementation.
Award recipients were selected by several FEAC Institute faculty, who include leaders from the public and private sectors actively engaged in enterprise architecture initiatives. FCW Events is a part of the FCW Media Group, which includes Federal Computer Week, FCW.com, the Government CIO Summit executive conferences and the Federal 100 Awards Program.
