WiSPER hires Newstrom

Former Virginia Secretary of Technology George Newstrom has been named as president and chief executive officer for a new company developing solutions for portable electronic records.

WiSPER Technologies was formed as a wholly-owned subsidiary in order to focus on the specific documentation needs of medical professionals, lawyers, law enforcement and others. The primary solution for WiSPER, formed by executives at software developer IMC, is intended to allow standardization of documentation, no matter the information that is input by people in the field or in offices.

Newstrom spent more than two years as Virginia's secretary of technology. In that position he oversaw the state's technology policy as well as the leader of the push to use technology to improve the state's economy. Eugene Huang, his deputy, now serves in that position.

While taking the top position at WiSPER, Newstrom still serves as chairman of the World Information Technology and Services Alliances, the parent organization of the Information Technology Association of America. Before moving into government in 2002, Newstrom served as president of EDS Asia-Pacific and as a member of IMC's board.
