Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has proposed reorganizing the State Technology Office (STO) to deal only with policy and strategy, transferring information technology operations and services to another division.
Under his proposed budget submitted to the legislature yesterday, the STO, which operates as an independent agency within the Management Services Department (DMS), would retain 26 employees and have a $3.2 million budget.
A separate organization within the DMS would provide IT maintenance and operation of existing functions, such as data center and applications management, Web portal assistance and information security. The proposed budget would transfer 167 positions and $269 million to the new division.
