FTS gets acting commish

Barbara Shelton, regional administrator of the General Services Administration's Mid-Atlantic Region, has been named acting commissioner of GSA's Federal Technology Service. Shelton will take over when Commissioner Sandra Bates retires Feb. 11.

Shelton has held her current post since January 2002. Before joining GSA, she served as deputy secretary for administration in Pennsylvania's Labor and Industry Department, managing information technology, personnel and procurement programs. GSA's Mid-Atlantic Region is headquartered in Philadelphia.

"Barbara has demonstrated her ability for successful leadership of large, complex organizations to provide outstanding customer service through a strong focus on people, performance management, organizational design and process reengineering," said Stephen Perry, GSA administrator, in a written statement.

"She has the skills, experience and the passion for excellence needed to assure FTS' continued success in meeting the technology acquisition requirements of our federal agency customers in the most efficient and effective manner," he said.
