Law firm hires Reichelt
Karl Reichelt, former chief of staff at GSA, will be director of federal marketing for Greenberg Traurig.
Karl Reichelt, who left his position as chief of staff at the General Services Administration late last year, has joined the law firm of Greenberg Traurig as director of federal marketing in the Governmental Affairs practice. Reichelt will share leadership of the federal marketing team with fellow director Bethany Noble.
"Everybody in town wanted Karl. We are delighted he chose Greenberg Traurig," said Fred Baggett, chairman of the firm's National Governmental Affairs practice group. "Karl is a hands-on professional who has overseen billions of dollars in transactions and is a great addition to our growing federal marketing team."
Reichelt announced his decision to leave GSA last November, saying then only that he was leaving to "to pursue an exciting new job opportunity beyond government." In a resignation letter to GSA Administrator Stephen Perry, he indicated that he did not have firm plans at that time.
"Greenberg Traurig caught my eye early on as an exceptional firm and I was drawn further by the commitment of its leaders to the federal marketing team," he said in a statement issued today.
The federal marketing team provides guidance to private sector firms that are trying to compete in the federal marketplace. Clients include defense firms, multinational corporations and start-up companies.
Reichelt's move ends a 13-year public sector career that included working for New York Gov. George Pataki's administration, as well as other roles within GSA prior to being named Chief of Staff in January 2003. He also served as the agency's first Chief Acquisition Officer beginning in June 2004.
