Army shows off simulators

Army officials and soldiers are gathering again on Capitol Hill today to show lawmakers and staffers the latest computer simulators and video games used in the service's training.

"The systems we develop hone their warfighting skills, make them better soldiers and save lives," said officials in the Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation, in a statement on their Web site promoting the Seventh Annual Simulation and Training Demonstration on Capitol Hill.

The simulators on display include trainers for truck convoys and for dealing with roadside bombs, the weapon of choice for Iraqi insurgents. Soldiers will tell how the hardware and software helped them prepare for combat, said Maj. Desiree Wineland, Army spokeswoman, in an e-mail statement.

Lawmakers and staffers can meet Army officials and soldiers in the Rayburn House office building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Service officials and soldiers showed the high-tech training gear earlier this week in the Senate Hart office building.
