IAC selects Excellence.gov winners
Five agency programs are recognized by the industry group.
Industry Advisory Council members recognized five federal agency programs, from e-learning to registering food imports, for demonstrating best practices in federal e-government implementations.
Judges selected the programs from 25 finalists that showed an impact on an agency's ability to fulfill its missions and satisfy stakeholders, participants and users.
David Wennergren, the Navy's chief information officer and one of the program coordinators, said the winners were programs that helped an agency's ability to deliver its mission. "It's about change," he said.
The five winners of the fifth annual Excellence.gov awards are:
The E-Training initiative. The Office of Personnel Management program supports the development of the federal workforce through simplified, one-stop access to high-quality e-learning products and services.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid program. Each year, more than 10 million students apply for more than $60 billion in financial aid online using the Education Department's program. Prior to 1997, the program was complex, expensive labor-intensive and paper-based. Now, the FAFSA Web site allows students to apply for federal student aid via a secure, easy-to-use Web site available around the clock.
The FDA Industry Systems. The FIS is a global extranet run by the Food and Drug Administration for food facility registration and prior notice of shipments for U.S. imports created under the Bioterrorism Act.
The Online Customer Self-Service program. Known as "Click-N-Ship," this U.S. Postal Service program has provided more than $125 million in online, postage-paid labels since its inception.
The Trademark Electronic Application System. The system is a publicly accessible, Web-based system run by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for submitting electronic applications for both domestic and international trademarks.
