Virginia elects Unisys for voter registration system

The state has awarded Unisys a seven-year, $8 million contract to implement a statewide system.<@SM>

The Virginia State Board of Elections has awarded Unisys Corp. a seven-year, $8 million contract to implement a statewide voter registration system.Under the contract, Unisys will roll out a new statewide Virginia Election and Registration Information System by December, integrating existing systems into the central platform and providing ongoing support.Additionally, the company will train the board’s staff and local registrars throughout the state to use the system.Unisys’ team includes Quest Information Systems Inc. of Indianapolis and Aradyme Corp. of Orem, Utah. Quest will craft applications and Aradyme will handle the database conversion.The new system will bring the state into compliance with the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The law requires each state to establish and maintain a central registration database.The contract has a two-year base period and five one-year options.
