IRS plans portal integration

The IRS is seeking ideas on how to modernize its Web services, consolidating its online presence through an enterprise portal.In the issued today, the IRS said it would consider replacing its current software and infrastructure as well as look at using managed services to expand online tax services and transactions. The IRS has several contracts, set to expire next year, for support of multiple Web portals, including the Public User Portal, Registered User Portal and Employee User Portal. The tax agency anticipates that its enterprise portal will provide a single point of access for all internal and external IRS users. Although the views for internal and external users will differ based upon each user, the underlying framework must unify access to all IRS content and data, the RFI noted.The agency will accept responses to the RFI until April 20.During the peak of last year’s tax season, the IRS’ public Web site received 75 million to 100 million hits per day, topping out at 127.5 million hits on April 15. The total hits last year were more than 5.7 billion. Total pages viewed exceeded 954 million and visits exceeded 152 million.Currently, consists of approximately 80,000 content items, including 24,000 HTML pages, 39,000 static files and 12,000 JavaServer Pages.
