TSA chief out in June

David Stone, the retired rear admiral who leads the Transportation Security Administration, is stepping down, Homeland Security Department officials announced today.

Stone will stay on until June to help pick his successor, DHS spokesman Mark Hatfield said. Officials offered neither a reason for his departure nor the names of possible successors.

Stone is the third TSA leader to leave the job during the agency’s three-year history. His predecessor, Adm. James Loy, was promoted to DHS deputy secretary. The first TSA chief was John Magaw, former leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Secret Service.
