Ciber migrates Army's Active Directory accounts

Ciber has wrapped up the first in a series of Microsoft Active Directory migrations that the systems integrator has undertaken for the Army.

The migration project at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia involved the re-creation of more than 10,000 accounts in the Active Directory domain. Ciber is prime contractor for Fort Stewart’s Directorate of Information Management.

Ciber is also working on Active Directory migrations at six other Army installations, according to Ron Smith, vice president and area director of the company's Federal Outsourcing Practice. The other sites are the Army Reserve Command, Carlisle Barracks, Fort Belvoir, Fort Campbell, Fort Hood and Fort Rucker.

Overall, the migrations involve 75,000 users, Smith said. In most cases, the Army installations are migrating from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, he added.

In addition to managing the Active Directory upgrade, the migration projects involve information assurance and, in some cases, Ciber’s call center, which provides Tier 1 help-desk support.

Smith said Ciber’s Active Directory migration projects position the company for potential follow-on business in the form of Microsoft Exchange 2003 projects. Those projects have yet to materialize, however.
