Mehan retiring from FAA CIO job

Daniel Mehan, the chief information officer at the Federal Aviation Administration, is retiring at the end of August.

Mehan, 60, said in an interview that he has looked at a number of opportunities in the private sector, but won’t decide where he will go next until the end of August.

Mehan, who became the FAA’s CIO six and a half years ago, said he joined the government after a 30-year career at AT&T, and expected to stay only five years.

“This past year, we got to green in e-gov, and got an ‘A’ in FISMA, and all of our business cases passed. I wanted to be sure we got those things done and the agency actually got recognized,” he said.

No word yet on who is replacing Mehan, but he adding that, “we will be doing a search inside and outside, and that’s one of the things I’ll be working on in the next couple of months.”
