Croom takes over DISA, JTF-GNO

Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Croom assumed command today of the Defense Information Systems Agency and the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO).

During a ceremony today at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., Croom became the military’s top systems official and chief cyberwarrior. He replaces Air Force Lt. Gen. Harry Raduege, who served as DISA director for the past five years and helped start JTF-GNO. Raduege is retiring after 35 years of service, according to a DISA statement.

Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, presided over the ceremony. Marine Corps Gen. James Cartwright, commanding general of U.S. Strategic Command, officiated over the JTF-GNO ceremony, according to the statement.

JTF-GNO falls within Strategic Command, which oversees the operation and protection of the military’s networks and information systems, including psychological operations and computer network attacks. The command also presides over the military’s nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles and missile defense arsenals.

Croom previously served as director of information, services and integration in the Air Force’s new Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Warfighting Integration and Chief Information Officer.
