Army emphasizes, recognizes network management

Next month, Army information technology leaders will recognize for the first time the best of the 15,000 workers at Network Enterprise Technology Command (Netcom)/9th Army Signal Command located at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Netcom is the organization that operates, manages and defends the service’s networks.

“The Salute to Netcom Heroes award is the senior leadership’s way of recognizing those dedicated members of our command who go above and beyond their assigned duties and put forth an effort that is beneficial to Netcom, the Army, and the joint and coalition warfighting forces we support,” said command spokesman Gordon Van Vleet in a written statement.

Army IT leaders appear to be taking management and leadership steps by using awards to establish a workplace centered on excellence for the service’s network management personnel. Last year, Army IT officials honored for the first time service personnel and contractors for excellence in information assurance.

Army Maj. Gen. James Hylton, Netcom commander, said in a press release that Army IT leaders will honor the best personnel in the command. “To understand the significance of this recognition, imagine all the professional sports teams from around the world selecting a dozen of the best,” Hylton said.
