DHS readies IT acquisitions

Homeland Security Department officials announced they will hold an informational session Aug. 16 for government and industry representatives on two new programs for acquiring information technology.

One program is called Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading Edge solutions, or EAGLE. The second program, First Source, is for IT commodities.

Established under Federal Acquisition Regulation guidelines, the programs will consist of multiple contracts for both large and small businesses and department officials are expecting to issue two requests for proposals on the programs in the next several weeks.

“These programs, when fully in place, will satisfy the vast majority of DHS information task requirements,” said Scott Charbo, the department’s chief information officer, in a press release. “The programs are designed to meet the goal of one IT infrastructure, and will run out of the Enterprise Solutions Office, a joint program office, under the IT Acquisition Center.”

The briefing, which will provide an overview of strategies and perspectives, is free and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only two representatives from each company will be allowed. It will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
