Zeppieri steps down at TSA

David Zeppieri, the chief information officer at the Transportation Security Agency, is the latest senior person to leave that troubled agency, sources said.

Zeppieri left the job on Friday, citing “personal reasons.” He had only joined TSA 14 months ago. His departure was announced internally on Monday, according to industry sources who spoke on the condition that they not be named.

A TSA spokesperson refused comment. Attempts to reach Zeppieri at his government e-mail address failed. It bounced back with the note that no one of his name was on the e-mail system.

Three top officials have left the fledgling agency, which has run into criticism over how it has run security at the nation’s airports in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and for its handling of privacy and personnel issues.

David Stone stepped down as head of TSA in June.
