The Defense Department has awarded Dell an $18.4 million Navy contract to upgrade the Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Network.
Dell’s Federal Systems business unit will update the network’s enterprise controlling node data center by building and maintaining an unclassified and a classified computer server farm. The company will transfer data, applications and services from existing server farms to the new ones, according to the solicitation released last year.
Dell will also develop and build an enterprise management system and an enterprise intrusion-detection system for the network. The company will also implement four unclassified and classified regional gateway nodes in Asia, Europe, Hawaii and the Middle East, according to the solicitation.
The Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Network is “a tactical, mission-critical information system which provides globally distributed information access/sharing, advanced security, and a completely Web-service enabled user environment in scenarios where delivery of accurate and timely tactical mission critical knowledge is crucial to the success of a mission,” according to the solicitation and DOD contract announcement.
The Naval Sea Systems Command located in Indian Head, Md., awarded the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract. Dell will complete the project by 2010.
