FBI extends deadline for Sentinel bids

The FBI will accept final proposals for Sentinel, its new flagship data management system, through Sept. 26, the FBI’s chief information officer, Zalmai Azmi, said today.
The Sentinel request for proposals is being administered under the National Institutes of Health's CIO Solutions and Partners 2 Innovations (CIO-SP2i) governmentwide contract.
A vendor requested a one-week filing extension, which was then offered to all vendors, said Megan Baroska, an FBI spokeswoman.
NIH has not disclosed how many bids it has received, Azmi said. Baroska said that Sentinel is still on track and that the bureau plans to award the contract by year's end.
The first phase of Sentinel will provide access to FBI mainframe data and create an infrastructure to support the rest of the data management system, Azmi said. The specifics will depend on what vendors offer, he said.
Azmi mentioned the change today at the BrainStorm DC conference in Washington, D.C.
Sentinel will replace the aborted $170 million Virtual Case File management system. VCF was to be part of the FBI's Trilogy program for modernizing the bureau’s information systems. VCF was never deployed after repeated cost and schedule overruns.
