BearingPoint to support Navy IT office

Integrator will provide IT strategy, program development and management for high-priority Enterprise Program Management Office.

BearingPoint will provide support for the Navy's Enterprise Program Management Office under a contract that could be worth as much as $58 million in five years, the company announced yesterday. The integrator will provide support for the strategy, design, development and implementation of the EPMO, one of the Navy's most urgent initiatives.

The Navy wants to apply the same degree of rigor and discipline to its information technology efforts as it does to weapons systems, and the EPMO is a key element in meeting that goal. BearingPoint will aid in the integration of commercial best practices within the Navy, which is expected to lead to improved interoperability of systems, reduced total operating costs and early risk identification and mitigation.

"The chief of naval operations has outlined an aggressive enterprise IT strategy, and formation of this EPMO will set the stage for future IT growth throughout the Navy," said Beth Smith, senior vice president for BearingPoint's Navy initiatives, in a written statement. "BearingPoint is honored to assist in transforming the way the Navy manages and delivers on its IT priorities."
