State and local liaison Josh Filler to leave DHS
Filler has been director of the Homeland Security Department's Office of State and Local Government Coordination since the department formed in 2003.
Josh Filler, who has been the Homeland Security Department’s point person for state, tribal and local government officials, will resign effective Nov. 5, DHS officials announced today.
Filler has been director of DHS’ Office of State and Local Government Coordination since the department formed in 2003. During his time in office, he oversaw state and local issues related to homeland security funding, communication and information sharing.
“Josh Filler has served with distinction on homeland security matters even before the creation of DHS, when he directed local outreach and external affairs at the White House Office of Homeland Security,” DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff said in a prepared statement.
“At the Department of Homeland Security, Josh led the effort to build strong new relationships and better information sharing channels with our state, local and tribal partners in government,” he added.
Filler joined the White House Office of Homeland Security in May 2002 before moving to DHS. Previously, as a member of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s cabinet, Filler oversaw emergency operational issues and managed contacts with local, state and federal officials following the September 2001 attacks.
