Treasury thinks green for 2006

The Treasury Department’s top information technology priority for 2006 will be getting a green score on the e-government portion of the President’s Management Agenda, said Ira Hobbs, the department’s chief information officer.

Treasury expects to get that green light in the first quarter of fiscal 2006. That achievement would be the fruit of 18 months of hard work, Hobbs said.

Hobbs and IT officials from other federal departments gave their predictions for fiscal 2006 yesterday at Input’s FedFocus 2006 conference in Washington, D.C.

The department will also improve its IT management, operations and service delivery, Hobbs said. It will continue to work on implementing an earned value management methodology across the department and take advantage of its investment management tools, he said.

Treasury is looking for vendors to help create an enterprise architecture approach to meet the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, which requires federal organizations to issue secure credentials.

The department is also looking for enterprise tools that provide real-time IT security, Hobbs said.
