Apogen takes protégé under DHS program

Apogen Technologies will serve as a mentor to Cambridge Communication Systems under the Homeland Security Department's mentor/protégé program. Apogen, which has grown from a small business to a $200 million company in two years, will be able to give Cambridge valuable guidance, according to Apogen.

Apogen will assist Cambridge with business development, business management and planning, performance-based contracting, and technical assistance.

“We wanted a mentor company that could relate to the experience of a small business like our own,” said Chris Sentimore, president of Cambridge, in a prepared statement. “We thought Apogen would be a good fit considering that they were formerly classified as a small business, and they would have firsthand knowledge of how to advise us in our growth.”

Together, Apogen and Cambridge will try to develop a long-term partnership, serving DHS' communications and infrastructure needs. Apogen has assigned a full-time manager to oversee the program.
