OPM creates IT exchange Web site

The exchange is for federal IT leaders who want to learn industry best practices and further develop their skills.

The Office of Personnel Management launched a Web site today for a new Information Technology Exchange Program to promote temporary job exchanges among government and corporate IT leaders.

Through the exchange, federal IT leaders can learn industry best practices and skills, and corporate IT officials can gain a greater understanding of the challenges facing their federal counterparts, according to OPM, which established rules for the exchange.

The E-Government Act of 2002 authorizes the temporary assignment of federal IT management employees in companies and allows federal agencies to accept corporate IT employees in temporary job assignments.

The Federal Chief Information Officers Council and the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council have endorsed the exchange.

Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) drafted legislation that created the exchange program.
