Apogen names new execs

Apogen Technologies has chosen Ed Faulkner as its new vice president and general manager of the Defense Systems Group. He had been running a Navy contract for the company in New Orleans.

The company also promoted Gary Higgins, former corporate vice president and chief engineer, to chief technology officer. He will work with the company’s four business units -- Homeland Security, Federal Civilian, Energy and Environmental Technology, and Defense Systems -- to analyze new technologies and offer them to government customers.

The personnel moves come as Todd Stottlemyer, Apogen’s co-founder and chief executive officer, leaves the firm. President Paul Leslie will assume Stottlemyer's CEO duties.

Faulkner had been vice president and technical director of Apogen's contract with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command’s Information Technology Center. In his new role, he will continue his oversight of the company's work with the Navy. He also will take on new responsibilities supporting the company's business development initiatives with the Defense Department.

“Ed has been an important member of the management team, especially in his support and coordination in getting New Orleans-based customer work up and running after Hurricane Katrina,” Leslie said in a written statement. Faulkner's experience and industry knowledge will allow the company to expand its DOD work, Leslie added.

Of Higgins, Leslie said, “Gary’s industry experience and technology knowledge can provide Apogen with the strategic direction it needs to maintain its current rate of expansion."

Before joining Apogen, Faulkner worked at Microsoft as managing consultant for the company's Air Force and DOD agencies group. Higgins had previously worked in management positions at Science Applications International Corp. and Boeing.
