DataPath grabs Third Rail

The telecommunications integrator buys assets of the wireless broadband specialist.

DataPath, a telecommunications integrator, has acquired the assets of Third Rail Americas, which broadens the company's reach in wireless communications.

DataPath, based in Duluth, Ga., provides network solutions that span satellite earth terminals, broadband and baseband equipment, and wireless solutions. The technology from Third Rail, which specialized in wireless broadband networks, will add more wireless capability to the company's offerings, said Andy Mullins, chief executive officer at DataPath.

Both DataPath and Third Rail have customers in government. DataPath supplies satellite communications equipment for the Army’s Joint Network Node. The company also counts the Marine Corps among its government customers. Third Rail’s government customer base includes state emergency management agencies, Mullins said.

Mullins said DataPath plans to sell Third Rail’s wireless offerings with its satellite communications platform as an integrated bundle. However, the earth terminal and wireless solutions will be sold separately for customers who don’t want an integrated solution.
