DOD fills another biz agency post

The Defense Department has filled another post in the new Defense Business Transformation Agency.

Mark Krzysko will serve as assistant deputy undersecretary of Defense for strategic sourcing and acquisition processes. He will advise on acquisition sourcing processes and initiatives. Strategic sourcing refers to how an organization maximizes its purchasing from governance to cost.

Krzysko reports to Paul Brinkley, director of the Defense Business Transformation Agency and deputy undersecretary of Defense for business transformation. Brinkley announced Krzysko’s new position during a Jan. 4 luncheon briefing of the Washington, D.C., chapter of AFCEA International.

Krzysko said his duties will include identifying strategic sourcing business opportunities for DOD. His position and the Defense Business Transformation Agency fall under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.

Krzysko has held several positions in the office. They include deputy director of Defense procurement and acquisition policy, in which he worked on DOD’s EMall, an Internet-based marketplace for the department’s goods and services.

In late October 2005, DOD announced that Army Maj. Gen. Carlos “Butch” Pair would become the Defense business systems acquisition executive, the senior procurement official at the agency. The department created the agency earlier that month to advance departmentwide business transformation, including updating business processes and systems.
