Navy integrating SIGINT systems

Lockheed Martin will head a project to help the Navy more effectively share information among its systems that eavesdrop on enemy voice communications.

Lockheed Martin’s Integrated Systems & Solutions business unit announced Jan. 18 it will serve as the lead systems engineer on the Navy’s Distributed Information Operations project. During the two-year program, the company will work with BAE Systems to connect the service’s disparate underwater, surface, air and space signal intelligence systems so they can better exchange information, according to a company statement.

Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems will specifically develop software to create a service-oriented architecture, said Mark Grablin, director of Defense Department intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems at Lockheed Martin. The architecture will also work with one software under development for the Distributed Common Ground System-Navy intelligence system. The company did not disclose the contract’s value.
