Cureton named CIO at Goddard

Linda Cureton, deputy chief information officer at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives since 2002, has been named CIO at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Cureton has spent her career in the federal government, starting at the General Schedule-7 level after graduating from Howard University. She climbed the ladder through a variety of federal information technology positions. She was the Energy Department’s associate CIO, acting deputy CIO and acting CIO before taking the job at ATF in 2002.

As CIO and director of the IT and Communications Directorate at Goddard, she will support Goddard’s manned space flight mission.

“It’s an organization that was just recently created, and the challenge associated with creating a new organization is very interesting to me,” she said in a telephone interview.

In addition to an undergraduate degree from Howard University, she has a master's degree in science and applied mathematics from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s advanced certificate from Johns Hopkins.
