OMB Web site lists federal program ratings

The Office of Management and Budget today launched ExpectMore.gov, a Web site that provides clear and frank assessments of federal programs.

“ExpectMore.gov honestly shows how government programs perform and whether taxpayers are getting their money’s worth,” said OMB Deputy Director for Management Clay Johnson, in a press release.

The Web site shows where programs are succeeding, and where they are failing, he said.

ExpectMore.gov allows the public to review the performance of every federal program. The site includes assessments of about 800 programs, accounting for 80 percent of the federal budget. The rest will be completed within a year.

For every program assessed, visitors can find a rating of the program’s performance, its strengths and weaknesses and the program’s improvement plan. ExpectMore.gov also provides links to detailed program assessments and the program’s Web site. Visitors can search for programs in many ways, including by type of program or rating.

To produce the content for ExpectMore.gov, OMB and federal agencies assessed the programs using a standardized, objective approach called the Program Assessment Rating Tool (PART). The PART consists of 25 questions about a program’s performance, design and management. Once the assessments are complete, officials develop improvement plans to address PART findings.

“Program assessments help policymakers figure out what we need to do to achieve even greater results for the American people,” said Johnson.
