Certification could lead the networking products vendor to expand its involvement in the federal market.
Redback Networks has submitted products for testing at a Defense Department lab, a move that could lead to the company’s wider involvement in the federal market.
Redback officials said the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Joint Interoperability Test Command has completed testing of the company’s SmartEdge 400 and SmartEdge 800 Service Gateways. The products provide broadband aggregation, among other services.
John Spiliotis, vice president of sales and operations in Redback’s Americas division, said the command has not finalized its test report, and he noted that its certification appears on the list of customer criteria for federal agencies.
However, Redback has not committed to a full-fledged entry into the federal market.
“We have not yet made the go/no-go decision,” Spiliotis said, adding that the company will continue to evaluate the market, but he doesn’t anticipate a major change in focus in the near term.
