Accenture will continue to operate and maintain Education Department systems that manage student aid programs.
The three-year, $179 million extension applies to the Office of Federal Student Aid’s direct loan and Pell Grant origination and disbursement processing system. Accenture created the system, called the Common Origination and Disbursement system, according to a company announcement.
COD consolidates a set of existing systems and has disbursed more than $93 billion in federal student aid since Accenture implemented it in 2002. The system handles about $25 billion in Pell Grants and direct loans annually.
