OPM tells agencies how to report training data

OPM said its goal is to ensure that agencies have properly documented and reported records of their training programs.

"Training; Reporting Requirements"

The Office of Personnel Management has issued final guidelines for agencies to report workforce-training data. The guidelines, published in the Federal Register, clarify OPM's existing reporting and information collection rules and how they apply to training data. OPM said its goal is to ensure agencies have properly documented and reported records of employee training programs.

OPM will require agencies to regularly report their training data, beginning Dec. 31. The guidelines state that OPM’s Human Capital Leadership and Merit Systems Accountability Division will monitor the data.

The final guidelines ask each agency to maintain proper records of training plans, costs and activities and to submit the data through OPM’s Governmentwide Electronic Data Collection System. Agencies must also maintain schedules of records according to National Archives and Records Administration guidelines.

The guidelines for data collection can be found at OPM's Central Personnel Data File and Enterprise Human Resources Integration reporting Web site at http://www.opm.gov/feddata/guidance.asp.
