Rockwell Collins completes purchase of simulation business

Aviation electronics and communications provider Rockwell Collins has completed the purchase of Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp.’s simulation business, which produces professional hardware and software for realistic visual images for digital theater and other applications.

Under the terms of the sale, Rockwell Collins acquires E&S's military and commercial simulation assets, along with certain liabilities, including simulation facilities in Salt Lake City, Orlando, Fla., and the United Kingdom, in a $71.5 million cash transaction.

As part of this transaction, E&S granted Rockwell Collins exclusive rights to use and sell the E&S laser projector for simulation. About 200 former E&S employees have joined Rockwell Collins.

Salt Lake City-based E&S recently introduced its laser projector for ultra-high resolution projection requirements in simulation, digital theaters and other high-end projection applications.
